Apprentices

Start your career with James Core. We have apprenticeships available in hairdressing, beauty and barbering across Cumbria

What is an apprenticeship?

It's a real job, with hands-on experience, a salary and the chance to train while you work. You're treated just like all the other employees, with a contract of employment and holiday leave. An apprenticeship involves structured training and hands on experience to attain a recognisable qualification.

All apprenticeships make sure you're 'job ready' for the role you have trained for. Apprentices earn a salary right from day one of their employment and training.

place at James Core.

Will I attend college?

You will attend James Core training academy for 6 hours per week. You will record these 6
hours in your ‘Off the Job’

How long will I be an apprentice for?

This depends on you! The harder you work, the faster you can achieve your apprenticeship. As a guide, an apprenticeship will take a minimum of 15 months to complete. At the start of the apprenticeship we will work with you and your employer to agree a training plan and timescales for achievement.

What will I be doing as an apprentice?

You will be an important part of the team, helping out in many areas of your profession in the salon. Weekly training sessions will take place in the salon with a member of the salon team. You will visit our salon to be assessed 1 day per week. To achieve the apprenticeship there are different components such as practical assessments, written tests, oral questioning, portfolio building, and finally the end-point assessment.

Look around your local area and pop a CV in to them! If you find a salon who'd like to take you on, contact us and we'll do the rest.

What is the difference between an apprenticeship and college?

An apprentice is an employed member of staff who is also on a training programme.
As an employee, apprentices are entitled to all the statutory conditions of any other
employee.

A college can be more classroom based with the learner still in full time education.
They are not paid as they are not employed.

What is an end point assessment?

An independent assessor will come to James Core once all of your Hairdressing units have
been passed.

They will observe you providing a range of services to your clients and give you your final
grade.

What is the duration of the apprenticeship?

Our apprenticeships typically run over 20 months however at the start of the course we will
liaise with your employer to develop an individual learning plan with timescales for
completion.
