What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a government funded qualification aimed at people over the age of 16, which is delivered whilst working. Apprenticeships allow juniors to train on the job, learning a new skill and earn a wage.
An apprentice must be employed for at least 30 hours with 20% of this time dedicated to off the job training.
Employers are committed to paying the apprentice £4.30 per hour (rising to £4.81 in April 2022). If the apprentice is 19+ then after 1 year on the apprenticeship this goes up to national minimum wage.
Please note:
An apprentice under the age of 18 is not allowed of work more than 40 hours per week.
Why should I hire an apprentice?
An apprentice is a valuable asset to your salon. During the time in your salon, with the help of a mentor, not only does the salon become more productive but the apprentice brings another dimension of customer service.

The course is covered by the Government plus an Employer Incentive of £1000 is paid out if the apprentice is aged 16-18 at the time of enrolment.
